A little down time.

December 21, 2008

Its nice to have a little down time these last few days before Christmas. It been so busy these last few weeks with last minute holiday sessions, editing and placing orders. I still have a few more orders to get out, a preview to get up and a wedding next weekend but over all its been pretty quiet. My poor girls have seen their momma working long hours so I have been trying to get in some family time here and there.

For the first time ever we painted our own christmas ornaments and it was so much more fun than I had expected. I thought for sure our evening was going to end in tears and a huge mess but that didn’t happen at all. This afternoon we hung our handmade ornaments in the tree and they look adorable.

This one was made by my oldest daughter.

and this is a creation made by her younger sister

There are just 3 more days till christmas. I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season no matter what holiday you celebrate this time of year. Sending you all hugs and well wishes to you and your family.

Today’s session brought me to Grandma Buddy’s Tree Farm in Sebastopol, Ca. This has got to be the most beautiful farm I have ever visited. At the end of my session I took a few photo on the property that I wanted to share.

These pine cones are from the tree the family picked to take home.

I just love purple and pink sunsets. Can you see the moon?

Inside the main barn there is this really cool miniature christmas village with a train running through it.

Along the largest wall in the barn there are all these wreaths. Some are just so huge. The whole inside had this awesome warm glow from the candles and christmas lights that were hung from the ceiling.

If you are out and about and looking for a tree farm to visit I would highly recommend taking a trip to Buddy’s Christmas Tree Farm located off the 116 in Sebastopol, Ca in Sonoma County.

For the past 7 years I have made my annual trip to Alcatraz with my family for the Sunrise Gathering. Over the years my family has grown and we always look forward to sharing some of my heritage with my girls as well as be able to participate in a sacred ceremony such as this. This year was extra special since both my mom and brother flew up from LA so that they can come with us to the rock.

Here are a couple photos of the Aztec Dancers from the ceremony who began just as the sun began to rise.

The Drummer begins before the dancers enter the circle.

The dancers enter by circling the sacred fire

If you have not had a chance I highly recommend everyone attending a Sunrise Gathering on the rock at least once. Its worth it to get up super early in the morning and I can guarantee it will be an experience you will never forget.

The deadline to register is tomorrow Oct 4th. If you have not registered yet and still would like to you can online at http://www.rockthevote.com

I’m registered, are you?

Red White and Bloom

July 4, 2008

This year our local 4th of July fireworks show was on July 3rd. We live just a few blocks from the big show here in Santa Rosa so we walked over to local elementary school to watch the fireworks show going off at the fairgrounds which is just a couple blocks away. I have never photographed fireworks before but you gotta love the digital age :) It didn’t take me long to get the settings right to capture a few of shots of the show.

This by far is my favorite shot though since its Red White and Blue.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday and 3 day weekend with family.

My friend’s daughter is visiting from Southern California with her dad to spent time with her grandma. They are only in town for a few days so yesterday we took a trip out to Stoke’s Ranch for her photo session. I will post session photos later.

This was my first time visiting Stoke’s Ranch but surely a place everyone must visit. Fred Stoke has put together an awesome collection of old oil cans he has collected throughout the years, classic cars, several vintage buildings, vintage oil pumps and even has a chapel he built especially for his daughter’s wedding. Fred Stoke welcomed us to his ranch and we got to check out everything. The property line is bordered with his huge collection of old farming tractors, trailers, and tools.
